Brainspotting Therapy in Phoenix, AZ

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed you dreaded facing your day? You may be acutely aware of what is bothering you (a recent or past traumatic incident). Or you may feel anxious without knowing why

You may find yourself doing things to cope that you do not help. Maybe you get angry quickly at the people you love, isolate or even work to numb the pain. But your anxiety and uneasiness persist.

Maybe you find that you are "stuck" and are unable to move forward toward your goals. The most frustrating part is you cannot figure out why. You want to make positive and lasting changes in your life, but you're not sure how. You may think, "what happened to me wasn't that bad —it wasn't trauma, and I'd feel silly talking to a trauma therapist. Perhaps, you've even tried therapy, but it only helped for a short time, and before you knew it you were back to old patterns.

Maybe you have a child, pre-teen, or teen who has experienced trauma or suffers from anxiety, panic attacks, or depression, and you are at a loss as to how to help. All of your efforts with doctors, teachers, and school counselors have seemed fruitless, and you are worried about their future.

Even if you've unsuccessfully tried therapy before, Brainspotting therapy in Phoenix, AZ is a unique, effective approach to healing and can help in all of the above scenarios!

 What is Brainspotting Therapy?

There is increasing evidence that trauma is stored in your body and can alter how the brain works, affecting emotions, memory, and physical health.   David Grand, Ph.D., who discovered Brainspotting, explains, "A brain spot is a point in visual space to which the client has a strong reaction." Brainspotting locates points in the client's visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain (where emotions are processed). Dr. Grand discovered that "Where you look affects how you feel. It is the brain activity, especially in the subcortical brain, that organizes itself around that eye position. Brainspotting allows the trauma therapist to go directly to the trauma stored in the body."

Brainspotting is especially effective in healing PTSD and trauma. My goal as your therapist is to bypass the conscious, thinking mind and go directly to the subcortical (emotional brain) so that trauma can be processed more efficiently and quickly. In this way, Brainspotting allows your brain to process from the inside out in a way it cannot do through traditional "talk" therapy. Brainspotting is both a diagnostic tool and a treatment.

Brainspotting in Phoenix, AZ can help.

Although Brainspotting is a relatively new approach, current research and clinical studies suggest that Brainspotting is one of the most effective approaches to healing trauma.  For many patients who have not found answers or relief with traditional therapy, I use Brainspotting as a tool utilizing both the brain and body response to support the healing process. In this way, I can locate, process, and release traumatic experiences and symptoms which are often not accessed through other forms of therapy.

How do we do Brainspotting Therapy?

As you share how you're feeling, I may ask you to look at points in different positions (following my finger or pointer). Then I may ask you to describe where the pain or emotion seems strongest. I can then pinpoint where the trauma is being stored and begin to help you process and heal.
